The 2007-2008 New Orleans Hornets

Posted on: May 19, 2008 7:10 pm

It kind of began with a pick I was afraid to make.  I thought the Hornets could have made the postseason the last two years .. but I'm from Louisiana and I believe in superstitions.  I felt I put the voodoo on them picking them to make the postseason last year .. then watching Peja Stojakovic, Chris Paul, David West, and Bobby Jackson all fall to injury at one point or another during the season.  I remember the agony of watching Devin Brown (who I really like) and Desmond Mason having to win the Hornets ball games .. and I was afraid to pick them to make the playoffs this season .. but I did anyways.  And it's all paid off.

From the first wins at home in front of 10,000 people against the Kings and Trailblazers and then watching them win the division in front of a sell out crowd against the Clippers .. this season has been a tremendous season of firsts for real Hornets fans.  Even though the team doesn't have an illustrious history .. I would say they're a proud franchise with an above average past.  Nothing, though, can compare to this season .. but I get offended when people refer to them as perennial doormats.

I watched Chris Paul come within a bad last week of the season of winning the MVP award.  I watched David West blossom into what us Hornets fans knew that he could become.  I watched the team win their first division championship .. their first seven game series .. and I hope to tonight watch them make it past the confrence semifinals for the first time.  After all .. that's the most fitting way to contiue the season of firsts (ending in a first championship maybe .. ).  I didn't have much faith in the Hornets entering this series against the Spurs and I keep waiting for them to fail .. but they continue to make me the happiest basketball fan on the planet and I would love nothing more than to watch my team continue to grow.

But win or lose it's been a great season .. I just hope tonight's not the end of it.

The 2007-2008 New Orleans Hornets

I didn't see this till after they lost. What did you think of the game? There were some moments when I couldn't watch at all, but I was happy to see them make it interesting. In the end, the Spurs hit their shots and we didn't, but they were still able to make it close. I hate to say "next year", but it does look very promising for us.

The 2007-2008 New Orleans Hornets

I personally felt that the Hornets had a tremendous year, and to top the season off, played great against the defending champs.  Next year will be a better opportunity for the Hornets, because not only will the same talents be available, they will be experienced in the post season!  In addition, with a court general like Chris Paul, the Hornets success is inevitable.  Great season New Orleans!
